Chairman's Message
The Upper York Sewage Solutions (UYSS) Project is underway to determine the best option for servicing potential growth to 2031 in East Gwillimbury (Holland Landing, Queensville, Sharon) and parts of Aurora and Newmarket.
Work is underway on an Individual Environmental Assessment (IEA) for one of the remaining major pieces of new capital sewage infrastructure in The Regional Municipality of York.
The IEA requires engaging our residents in discussions about their individual and community needs, enabling them to participate in the process of researching and evaluating alternatives. This process ensures that our residents and stakeholders take ownership in the preferred solution.
The UYSS addresses requirements of the Places to Grow Act, the Regional Official Plan and York Region's Master Plan for Water and Wastewater Servicing. This project promotes quality communities, an enhanced environment, a vibrant economy, housing choices, managed and balanced growth and engaging communities. All this while building on current Provincial mandates including: Oak Ridges Moraine Act, Clean Water Act, Source Water Protection, Sustainability Principles, Greenbelt Act and The Great Lakes Charter.
The UYSS project team is committed to excellence in project management and open communications by:
- Demonstrating a commitment to environmental protection and sustainability, including reducing the carbon footprint during both project execution and throughout the lifecycle of the UYSS infrastructure.
- Offering a wide variety of opportunity to engage stakeholders including, Public Information Forums, small working group sessions, an interactive and informative project website as well as walk-in access to project staff at the project office.
- Dedication to implementing a preferred solution that will pass the test of public participation, superior design and technology, agency approvals, environmental management while adhering to existing and pending legislation.
Through this website, we will endeavour to provide our residents with all the information possible about this project. Your comments and ongoing participation will assist us in determining a sustainable, viable and strong servicing solution.
